Evoke at Cascades is a wilderness therapy program that operates 365 days a year in a remote, wilderness setting.  Field Instructors are a vital part of the Treatment Team, supporting participant treatment plans while teaching and role modeling healthy living and wilderness skills. 

 

Job duties

  • Exercise sound judgment while managing risk and supervising students in various surroundings, while primarily operating in a remote, wilderness setting
  • Live and teach comfortably and confidently in a wilderness setting for a minimum of eight days at a time
  • Work as part of a treatment team to fulfill specific needs for each participant
  • Effectively teach various therapeutic content and processes
  • Effectively teach Mind, Body, Spirit curriculum, including yoga, meditation, and mindfulness techniques
  • Role-model assertive communication and healthy daily living

 

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to comfortably, confidently, and safely thrive in a remote, wilderness setting any time of the year in various weather conditions
  • Must be able to carry a minimum 60+ lb backpack over uneven terrain for 5-15 miles, including all associated physical activities
  • Must be able to physically respond to various situations immediately, up to and including running with little notice and responding, to escalated group situations and/or interpersonal aggression
  • Must be able to visually supervise groups, maintaining consistent awareness of all participant locations
  • Must be able to vocalize commands and confidently direct participants when necessary

 

Minimum qualifications

  • 21 years of age or older
  • Have a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Pass an physical examination and pre-employment drug screening
  • Clear Federal & State Criminal Background checks
  • Hold current (within the last year) First-Aid & CPR certifications (WFR strongly preferred)

 

Additional experience (strongly preferred)

  • Demonstrated successful risk management and leadership in outdoor, backcountry, or wilderness settings
  • Experience working in therapeutic treatment, youth development, psychology, education, or related fields
  • Exposure to and/or practice in yoga, meditation, or other mindfulness techniques
  • Experience and understanding of confidentiality, able to operate professionally in a clinically sensitive environment

 

Field Instructor Pay & Benefits (for full-time employees)

  • Competitive wage, ranging from roughly $168.11 to $200 per day
